I have been referred twice by my doctor for separate physical issues, and I couldn't be happier with the results and with the continued exercises through their application. The staff are all professional and friendly. When I have been given exercises, they show me what to do, and they monitor me to ensure I do the exercises and they are done properly. Starting with Dr. Katie, Adam, and Kevin, along with the ladies who worked with me, you have my appreciation. You were all kind and diligent to make sure I was improving while also asking how I was feeling while I was doing the assigned exercise and when I completed it. I couldn't recommend this place more as they helped me improve with my separate physical issues. 5 Stars to them all. Thank you!!

I have spent several months rehabbing at the Spine and Sport Palm Desert location. I found them to always be professional and had the perfect combination of pushing and encouragement . I absolutely would recommend them and I personally would use them again.

Spine & Sport Physical Therapy is a very clean, efficient and peaceful place to recover from back pain. Scott, my physical therapist, is knowledgeable and patient with me. He even explains how each exercise helps improve my back problem. Further, the lady at the front desk is pleasant and goes the extra mile if I have a scheduling problem. I highly recommend this place if you need pt.

I had a very unusual and concerning experience with Spine & Sport. On 11/21, I went to their Mission Hills location and went through an extensive new patient evaluation with Cassadie. I then scheduled appointments at the Palm Desert location. I met with a young and awkward physical therapist. Let’s call him “AA.” I was thoroughly unimpressed with AA. He was shy and did not possess adequate people skills to aid in my physical therapy. He would give me exercises, then wander off and stand away from me or do his own exercises. I was expecting someone to actually work with me, as has been my experience with other physical therapists. I contacted Cassadie who did my initial evaluation at the Mission Hills location. She suggested I come back to their location and work with Nathan. I contacted Scheduling and asked them to cancel all of my future appointments with AA. When they asked why, I told them about my experience with AA and informed them that I will be scheduling appointments with a different physical therapist at the Mission Hills location. Later that week I went online to request appointments with Nathan. The system would not let me request appointments, so I called Scheduling again. Scheduling informed me that since I cancelled all of my appointments with AA they “discharged” me and I will need to come in for another evaluation at Mission Hills. I explained that I had a thorough evaluation at Mission Hills just two weeks ago. They said there is nothing they could do. I contacted Cassadie at Mission Hills who did my evaluation two weeks ago and explained all of this to her. She said the only way I could schedule an appointment was to come in for another initial evaluation. I would need to come in, go through the exact same evaluation I did two weeks ago, and pay $190 for the redundant evaluation. Spine & Sport’s mission statement reads, “Spine & Sport Physical Therapy empowers people to unlock their human performance potential. Our team of expert physical therapists uses a multidisciplinary approach to help you return to action after an injury or surgery, manage pain and improve chronic conditions. Together, we make healthy happen.” It does not look like anyone who works at Spine & Sport has read this mission statement. This has been an all-around disappointing experience.

I had an eval via video at Indio location and next avail appt was in PD... as only 7 visits were approved the evaluator agreed I needed to focus on two areas: walking hands-free (without walker) and electrical muscle stimulation for foot-drop. At Palm Desert location I was directed to the bicycle - I stated I have a machine at home. I asked if he had read the approved evaluation. He said yes... then why was he not directing me to treadmill? I was then directed to a crusty exercise table (open cracks exposing foam). He said do these exercises (that I do at home) and he'd go talk with the therapist about the stimulation. I did the reps and was sitting up for about 10 min. I then wheeled over to front desk and the guy was talking with two other guys. I ask what's going on... no answer. I explained that while I only have 7 visits that I need to focus on the approved areas. No answer. I tell them to discharge me - I'll find another PT. Equipment is dirty, undisinfected from previous use, unrepaired condition, and staff is unresponsive... are they all licensed? PS . Went to Eisenhower Orthopedic at Argyros La Quinta. Awesome techs! Followed my needed therapy.

Commonly Asked Questions & What to Expect During Your PT Treatment

Do I need to see a doctor first?

Thanks to direct access, we can see any patient without a referral from a doctor for an initial evaluation. If our therapists believe that physical therapy is a good option for your needs, we can work with you and your physician to obtain a prescription for continued care. If your diagnosis requires additional expertise, we can also refer you to a specialist to handle your care.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

For your first visit, be sure to bring the following items:

  • Prescription for physical therapy from your referring physician (if applicable)
  • Government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license)
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Patient forms, which can be downloaded from this site in PDF format. Print and fill out the forms completely and bring them during your first visit.
  • Patients who are minors (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for their first visit.

What should I wear to physical therapy?

Please wear or bring comfortable athletic/workout clothing to change into. This includes shorts or sweatpants, a t-shirt and sneakers. Your attire should also allow easy access to your injured area for treatment by your physical therapist.

What can I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, your therapist will perform a thorough examination, in which he or she will review your physician’s recommendations, examine the problem area, ask questions about your injury or pain, develop an effective treatment plan for rehabilitation, discuss their findings with you and answer any questions you may have. Your treatment plan may include hands-on, manual therapy, a customized exercise program, stretching and physical agents such as heat, ice, ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Your physical therapist may also recommend a home program to further assist in your treatment.

How long will my appointment take?

Your first appointment will typically last from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on your injury. Following appointments usually last between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the treatment. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your appointment for check-in and paperwork. You can also download our patient forms, which can be filled out beforehand and brought with to your appointment.

How often will I need to come?

The frequency of your treatment will depend on your physician’s prescription and the plan of care developed by your physical therapist. Most patients require treatment two to three times per week. The duration of treatment will depend on your injury and personal progress. Your physical therapist will discuss this with you following your initial exam and subsequently as you progress.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we require at least 24 hours' notice. However, we do understand than an occasional emergency or illness may arise, in which case you may have to cancel your appointment closer to your scheduled time.

Do you accept insurances? Will insurance cover my therapy?

We accept most major insurances including Medicare, Tricare and workers’ compensation plans. Before your initial visit, we will verify in and out of network benefits with your insurance company. The cost of therapy is determined by the benefits of your insurance plan, including the deductible and co-pay, or patient percentage. We are happy to check with your insurance company to determine the terms of your coverage. Payment for patient responsibility is due at the time of service.

Do you offer complimentary consultations?

We are proud to offer complimentary injury screenings with one of our certified licensed specialists who will discuss your area of discomfort and offer suggestions for next steps in care, if appropriate. For your convenience, consultations will last no longer than 15 minutes and are available over the phone or in person. To request a complimentary screening, after entering your ZIP code in the location look up, simply select 'Free Consultation' and proceed to fill out your information.
