Richard Rommelfanger, MPT is a Director of Physical Therapy with 20 years' experience in the outpatient orthopedic setting. He is a second-generation physical therapist who has spent 23 years leading teams to success in orthopedic/sports PT and community PT clinics. He places great importance on establishing a team of people around him that wish to serve their patients and each other.
In 2004, Richard was selected by Benchmark Medical, Inc. leadership to open a new start-up physical therapy clinic, Breakthrough Physical Therapy. This clinic enjoyed great success and excellent reputation for serving active seniors and athletes of all ages.
In 2008, Richard was selected to provide physical therapy to the Professional Golfers competing in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines. He worked with Velocity Sports Performance and the respected national sports agency, Athletes First, to evaluate and treat the top collegiate football players in the nation as they prepared for the NFL Combine and NFL Draft yearly from 2008 to 2011. Throughout his career, he has consulted for and worked with Major League Baseball players, professional beach volleyball players, professional hockey players, and US Track and Field Champions.
In 2013, Richard took the opportunity take over his retiring father’s community-based practice and led Irvine START Physical Therapy From 2013 to 2020, Richard posted positive margins despite growing regulation, changing policy, and declining reimbursement throughout the industry, all the while being grateful for the opportunity to provide excellent care and outcomes to the members of this community.
In 2020, Richard took the opportunity to become the Clinic Director for a local private practice physical therapy organization and was quickly promoted to Director of Physical Therapy over their 3 clinics and was able to grow a PT professional staff from 5 to 13 of only the best physical therapists in the OC and from approximately 400 visits per week to nearly 850 visits per week. His insights into becoming "the Complete Physical Therapist" helped him mentor growing PT's, his extensive passion for metrics helped him mentor his professional staff, his efforts and collaboration with billing personnel resulted in nearly a 10 dollar increase in revenue per visit, and his keen decision-making skills shaped the upward trajectory of this organization.
In 2023, Richard followed his passion to join one of the most prestigious and growth-oriented physical therapy companies in California at Spine & Sport Physical Therapy and took the reigns as the director of the Irvine and Orange Clinics. At this time, he is thankful for the opportunity to again serve his neighbors with an eye on providing the utmost quality of care he would expect for any of his own family.
Richard has found joy and purpose in meeting the challenges he faces in managerial environments with a similar perseverance that has always led him to success. He possesses the demeanor, professionalism, and attention to detail that is required to be a leader in this age.
