Generally short staffed. I have a knee injury. I had an “assistant” approach to work my knee at an appointment. I asked if she was a licensed therapist and she said no. I said, I would prefer you not work on me if you’re not licensed. Another therapist had a no show so she took care of me. My next appointment I walked in and the same assistant walks up to me with a huge smile and says: we don’t have a therapist for you today. Then Brian Fonseca, the therapist who did my initial evaluation walks up and says: I knew Friday we wouldn’t have a therapist for you but I didn’t call you. He gets his business card out of the rack , drops it on the counter and says : you can call to reschedule. There wasn’t anyone at the front desk for a week and no one there Monday who could reschedule. I feel this was retaliation because I did want an unlicensed person handling my therapy. At those prices, I would like the licensed therapist I am paying for. Today I spoke to the “Manager” Brandon and he listened. I dont feel he cared at all. Just listened so I would leave. I’ve called their main number and have a supervisory persons email. No one could talk to me. I am 65 and have been to PT for various shoulder injuries and I have never had an assistant do anything but heat or ice or the tens machine. I no longer trust this organization to handle my therapy. It was convenient because they are located inside the gym I go to daily. So much for convenience. I gave two stars instead of one because two of the clinicians were professional and polite.

I stopped in at the location that I had an appointment set this morning and was told that my appointment was at another location. I was told that I would have a 10 minute grace period if I could make the 30 minute drive to the other location. I was given incorrect information on where the Mission Avenue location was located. I was 5 minutes beyond the 10-minute Grace period. So they would not accept me at the Mission Avenue location. I was told I would have to reschedule. When I explained my situation to two people at two different front desks, it was dismissed with a shrug of the shoulders. It's like they didn't give a hoot. Now I have to wait another 3 weeks beyond the three weeks that I already waited to get into physical therapy treatments. If there's a copay for my visits, I will not pay for this one. As a matter of fact I should charge Spine and Sport for the gas that I spent driving up and down Oceanside dealing with a mistake that was not mine. Thank you. David Churchill 4 days later: I just looked at the "heartfelt" response to the negative review prior to mine. It was exactly like mine! A canned response mirrored the attitude I received.

I have a minor injury due to a fall and overuse of a joint. Doctor recommended PT as mostly preventative care to prevent it from becoming a major problem. It requires carefully positioned exercises to strengthen nearby muscles to the joint - going off position is ineffective. Went into first two sessions optimistic. I liked their intern. The therapist helping rotates each session, minimal consistency. Third session and the guy I got assigned gave me difficult balancing exercises and did not watch me at all. I had no spotter. I lost good form without help. No breaks between sets, and they do repeats of same set instead of circuits to rotate active muscle. Within 30mins I'd gone from fully mobile (could do multiple pistol squats) with very minor occasional aches to the worst pain that joint had ever had and could barely sit on a toilet - and the opposite side joint also had pain when it did not prior. Pure neglect and incompetence by PT to make me exhaust muscles like that and tell me that's how the exercises should be. I asked for a different person in following sessions. Was not improving. Next one was okay but not helpful. Session 5 I got assigned exercises that made my glutes not just exercise sore, but tensed up hard for three days straight... and my physical therapist was an antivaxxer. Clearly doesn't understand good information sources. Ugh. Asked for different person. Fine.... but get a team that either doesn't even know what muscle is supposed to work in a specific position, or is entirely dismissive of me. Do not go here. They are literally painfully negligent. PT should not *cause* injury progression. Their fitness regimes cause problems, and their physical therapists do not care or pay attention to patients and/or are thoroughly untrustworthy. Their guidance and lack thereof made my problem 10x worse than if I'd never gone to PT at all. The only good one was their intern who isn't there anymore.

Commonly Asked Questions & What to Expect During Your PT Treatment

Do I need to see a doctor first?

Thanks to direct access, we can see any patient without a referral from a doctor for an initial evaluation. If our therapists believe that physical therapy is a good option for your needs, we can work with you and your physician to obtain a prescription for continued care. If your diagnosis requires additional expertise, we can also refer you to a specialist to handle your care.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

For your first visit, be sure to bring the following items:

  • Prescription for physical therapy from your referring physician (if applicable)
  • Government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license)
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Patient forms, which can be downloaded from this site in PDF format. Print and fill out the forms completely and bring them during your first visit.
  • Patients who are minors (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for their first visit.

What should I wear to physical therapy?

Please wear or bring comfortable athletic/workout clothing to change into. This includes shorts or sweatpants, a t-shirt and sneakers. Your attire should also allow easy access to your injured area for treatment by your physical therapist.

What can I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, your therapist will perform a thorough examination, in which he or she will review your physician’s recommendations, examine the problem area, ask questions about your injury or pain, develop an effective treatment plan for rehabilitation, discuss their findings with you and answer any questions you may have. Your treatment plan may include hands-on, manual therapy, a customized exercise program, stretching and physical agents such as heat, ice, ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Your physical therapist may also recommend a home program to further assist in your treatment.

How long will my appointment take?

Your first appointment will typically last from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on your injury. Following appointments usually last between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the treatment. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your appointment for check-in and paperwork. You can also download our patient forms, which can be filled out beforehand and brought with to your appointment.

How often will I need to come?

The frequency of your treatment will depend on your physician’s prescription and the plan of care developed by your physical therapist. Most patients require treatment two to three times per week. The duration of treatment will depend on your injury and personal progress. Your physical therapist will discuss this with you following your initial exam and subsequently as you progress.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we require at least 24 hours' notice. However, we do understand than an occasional emergency or illness may arise, in which case you may have to cancel your appointment closer to your scheduled time.

Do you accept insurances? Will insurance cover my therapy?

We accept most major insurances including Medicare, Tricare and workers’ compensation plans. Before your initial visit, we will verify in and out of network benefits with your insurance company. The cost of therapy is determined by the benefits of your insurance plan, including the deductible and co-pay, or patient percentage. We are happy to check with your insurance company to determine the terms of your coverage. Payment for patient responsibility is due at the time of service.
