Everyone is so welcoming at this location! Starting off with Elijah making checking in easy and connecting on a personal yet professional level. I got the chance to work my foot fracture with Sarah and Michael, but working mostly with Cameron! Cameron made my recover journey easy and effective. I would definitely come back if I have another injury but I hope not to see them again any time soon!

Mikayla and Junior are great! They are very patient with my many questions and when I feel frustrated. It’s very important to me to have providers who recognize I am the expert on my own body, and they are the experts in their medical field. Mikayla and Junior have been receptive to this, and I think because of that, we make a good team. In general, I like how many locations there are and that they each have a range of hours because my work schedule can be challenging to work around during certain times of the year. I like that appointments are an hour long and that it’s been easy to work with getting my insurance to cover my appointments.

I have been coming to the Mission Valley location for the last 10 months for a left shoulder torn rotator cuff, 2 fractured low back discs and 5 low back bulging discs. I have had amazing skilled PT and always have enjoyed the compassion, kindness and expertise of my trainers. Always greeted with a smile. Especial shout out to Cameron and Sarah that has gotten me thru to full recovery so I can get back to living fully the joys in my life....my work and my Ballroom and Latin dancing and will soon be back in competition dancing! Thank you so much! From Struggle to my purpose and passion. Barbara Ham 😘

My physical therapists were Emma and Brock and in summary they changed my life. I was in such bad shape when I walked into Spine and Sport yet they were kind, top notch professionals. I can’t say enough about these two. I’d recommend them to anyone needing physical rehab and I am beyond thankful for them and their patient, knowledgeable way of treating me, who was starting from scratch having been confined to my bed for 1.5 years prior. What they did worked! Now I’m on the path to health truly because of them. They took away any self-consciousness I had making me fully able to not only work and gain strength, but to use the exercises at home now. I have nothing but gratitude for Emma and Brock at Spine and Sport.

My first time at Spine & Sport with Mikayla was good. She had a positive attitude, listened to me, and provided constructive feedback with a good introduction of exercises. That didn't happen on my second visit on 6/1/26 at 2:30pm. She greeted me again with a positive attitude and had me work with her subordinate, Junior. I saw him when I entered, and even before I started working with him, I saw a person with no energy or drive. When we started working together, he never smiled (not once), never properly greeted me or made me feel welcome! His lackluster attitude was a total drag; he gave me instructions, showed me what to do, and then went away. After 20 minutes, I wanted to dump him and return to Mikayla, but she was busy. Suffice to say that I will never work with Junior again. 1. This location desperately needs positive music. 2. Trying to schedule an appointment, yet you don't provide a list of providers—lazy and useless. 3. I installed the app and waited endlessly for a verification code that NEVER came. There's no phone # on your site for technical support, pathetic.

Commonly Asked Questions & What to Expect During Your PT Treatment

Do I need to see a doctor first?

Thanks to direct access, we can see any patient without a referral from a doctor for an initial evaluation. If our therapists believe that physical therapy is a good option for your needs, we can work with you and your physician to obtain a prescription for continued care. If your diagnosis requires additional expertise, we can also refer you to a specialist to handle your care.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?

For your first visit, be sure to bring the following items:

  • Prescription for physical therapy from your referring physician (if applicable)
  • Government issued photo ID (such as a driver’s license)
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Patient forms, which can be downloaded from this site in PDF format. Print and fill out the forms completely and bring them during your first visit.
  • Patients who are minors (under 18 years of age) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for their first visit.

What should I wear to physical therapy?

Please wear or bring comfortable athletic/workout clothing to change into. This includes shorts or sweatpants, a t-shirt and sneakers. Your attire should also allow easy access to your injured area for treatment by your physical therapist.

What can I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit, your therapist will perform a thorough examination, in which he or she will review your physician’s recommendations, examine the problem area, ask questions about your injury or pain, develop an effective treatment plan for rehabilitation, discuss their findings with you and answer any questions you may have. Your treatment plan may include hands-on, manual therapy, a customized exercise program, stretching and physical agents such as heat, ice, ultrasound and electrical stimulation. Your physical therapist may also recommend a home program to further assist in your treatment.

How long will my appointment take?

Your first appointment will typically last from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on your injury. Following appointments usually last between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the treatment. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of your appointment for check-in and paperwork. You can also download our patient forms, which can be filled out beforehand and brought with to your appointment.

How often will I need to come?

The frequency of your treatment will depend on your physician’s prescription and the plan of care developed by your physical therapist. Most patients require treatment two to three times per week. The duration of treatment will depend on your injury and personal progress. Your physical therapist will discuss this with you following your initial exam and subsequently as you progress.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you are unable to attend an appointment, we require at least 24 hours' notice. However, we do understand than an occasional emergency or illness may arise, in which case you may have to cancel your appointment closer to your scheduled time.

Do you accept insurances? Will insurance cover my therapy?

We accept most major insurances including Medicare, Tricare and workers’ compensation plans. Before your initial visit, we will verify in and out of network benefits with your insurance company. The cost of therapy is determined by the benefits of your insurance plan, including the deductible and co-pay, or patient percentage. We are happy to check with your insurance company to determine the terms of your coverage. Payment for patient responsibility is due at the time of service.
