National Podcast Highlights Prevention, Recovery, and Physical Therapy’s Role in Everyday Pain Relief
We’re thrilled to share that Spine & Sport Physical Therapy was featured in a recent episode of NPR’s Life Kit, which dove deep into the causes of neck pain and practical steps for preventing and managing it—featuring none other than Michael Woodard, PT, clinic director at Spine & Sport Mission Valley.
The episode unpacks how posture, screen time, and sleep positions can all contribute to neck pain—and how physical therapy can help address these common issues before they become chronic.
“The real danger’s when we get to the point where we say, ‘My neck must be out of alignment. Therefore, I need to rest this,’” said Michael Woodard. “That’s what can turn a benign issue into a longer-term recovery.”
Woodard guided listeners through practical stretches and strength-building exercises that help keep the neck strong, mobile, and pain-free. The episode also reinforced a key message: physical therapists can be your first stop for care, often without a referral.
“Mild issues of the neck and back—we can’t just ‘not use them,’” Woodard said. “If you don’t move, you lose mobility and strength. Movement is medicine.”
